How is Region Värmland governed?
The regional board consists of 13 politicians from Värmland. The board, which holds a general meeting once a month, makes the majority of the decisions that concern the activities of Region Värmland.
The highest decision-making body is the regional council. The 49 members are elected by the 16 municipalities in Värmland and the county council and regional council, respectively. The politicians on the regional board and the regional council are thus elected indirectly rather than directly. The political composition of the regional council thereby reflects the political make-up of Värmland’s municipalities and county council.
All decisions that concern Region Värmland’s overall activities, e,g, its budget, regional development programmes, etc., ultimately land on the desk of the regional council. The council holds two general meetings per year.
Two politicians work full-time as regional advisors. Within Region Värmland there are also officers with responsibilities for various activities and managerial tasks. They follow and implement the decisions made by the politicians and the guidelines that apply to the work being undertaken.
