What does Region Värmland do?

Our task is to establish conditions for flourishing trade and industry, a rich cultural life and the opportunity for the inhabitants of Värmland to live a good life.

What we do has not only to contribute to a good quality of life in Värmland today, but also lay the foundations for a society where future generations can support themselves and live a good life. The bulk of the work in promoting growth and regional development has to be undertaken with a long-term perspective in mind.

This is due to the fact that it is often not possible to measure many of the effects that we strive for until several years have passed. We therefore work with a long-time time frame. One example here is the vision that governs our work: Värmland is flourishing and knows no bounds extends until 2020.

Regional development is an ongoing process where many different players work together. Region Värmland’s role is to coordinate and support these many players.

There is much that influences Värmland’s growth. Region Värmland therefore works with a large range of issues. We have a staff of around 300, some 200 of whom are within our five colleges for adult education. We work with everything from infrastructure, economy and tourism to enriching cultural life and fulfilling educational needs.

Here are some more examples of what we do:
• We draw up strategies for the development of the region. It is our responsibility that they are publicised and implemented.
• We market Värmland as a location for companies to establish themselves, both nationally and internationally.
• We work with international issues in order to promote cooperation on a broad front, and to stay informed of what’s happening in the world at large, etc..
• We follow the EU’s policies and strive towards having a positive influence on developments for Värmland.
• We ensure that regional development leads to environmentally sustainable growth, and monitor that this is the case.
• We work to promote in-depth cooperation between educational facilities and places of work.
• We allocate resources to regional cultural institutions and activities within adult education, sport and culture.
• We have strategic responsibility for coordinating, supporting and developing culture, leisure and creative industries in Värmland.
