Why does Region Värmland exist?

Before Region Värmland was formed, a number of agencies dealt with regional development in the region. However, with a large number of interested parties and shared responsibility, it was difficult to work towards a common goal.

The municipalities and the county council therefore decided to bring the work of promoting  regional development under one umbrella organisation. Region Värmland was consequently set up: a new municipal association with the county council and the 16 municipalities as the responsible authorities.

Collaborating on the issues that involve the development of Värmland, e. g. infrastructure, broadband and energy, means that there is a greater chance of success. Together we are stronger, more effective and occupy a larger space than if each municipality were to act individually. Together we maintain Värmland’s position, both in Sweden and abroad. Our region should be a place where people want to live, and where companies wish to establish, operate and develop. Our task is to ensure that the residents of Värmland are able to live a good life, now and in the future.
