About the work places

The Centralsjukhuset Karlstad (Central Hospital Karlstad) acts both as a county hospital for all of Värmland as well as a local hospital.

Centralsjukhuset Karlstad has specialized care that most people need sometime in their lifetime. There are some twenty different specialties here, including eye, skin, gynecology, renal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, PCI and oncology. There are around 500 beds available. The hospital houses around 3,800 employees, of which about 500 are doctors, 1,300 nurses and midwives, 80 physiotherapists, 750 assistant nurses, 750 laboratory staff, 255 health administrators and 350 service staff.

We treat patients with ear, nose or throat problems, as well as patients in need of hearing therapy. There are roughly 100 employees in this department.

The main part of our department is located at Centralsjukhuset in Karlstad where we provide surgical services, reception, hearing therapy and wards. We have different types of receptions in the major cities in the region. We have audiologists, hearing educators, hearing engineers, doctors, nurses, assistant nurses, sign language interpreters and technical audiologists among our staff.

The hospital in Torsby is the county’s northernmost emergency hospital with round-the-clock operations. Clean and spacious premises house the emergency and outpatient clinics for all specialties. The hospital is centralized, streamlined and geared to the needs of the patient. Our work is based on the vision to “create a hospital where we can imagine ourselves as patients”.

Our services include medicine, surgery, orthopedics, urology, gynecology, anesthesia, surgery and intensive care, radiology, laboratory, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and palliative care. The surgical activity covers both orthopedics and surgery, including endoscopic procedures. There is also dialysis department here.

Primary care is the basis for healthcare in Värmland, and we who work in general practice are here to give the residents of Värmland a close and good quality care during all stages of life in our local health care centers.

In addition to general practice, there are also opportunities to work in child health services, midwifery and adolescent health services, and to work with physiotherapists, occupational therapists and psychosocial resources, for example.

We work in teams that are often lead by a doctor at the local health care center. The patient gets to meet the most appropriate professional based on their medical needs.

We are committed to both individual and collective skills development for general practitioners.
